Place Lots of Flowers Around Your Yard To Attract Hummingbirds
If you would like to attract more hummingbirds to you yard or garden, consider the fact that they are mostly attracted to your flowers for their nectar. However, they are especially attracted to the color red. So you might want to get a couple of red hummingbird feeders to start out. Make sure to use only water and sugar in your feeder – one part sugar to four parts water. And, use tap water. They like it best because of the minerals. You’ll be surprised how fast they will go through this food!
Then make sure you have plants that hummingbirds like. They also like blue, purple, red, orange, pink and white blossoms. Some of their favorite blossoms and flowers are mimosa, azalea, fuchsia, hibiscus, petunia, bottle brush, nasturtium, honeysuckle and lilac. Since they are not attracted by scent, don’t worry about the fragrances, just focus on color and nectar types.
If you have a bird bath or a fountain in your yard, your hummingbirds will be very happy and you will be able to enjoy watching them drink and splash themselves as well. They like to sit in the shade, and also would tend to build their nests in the shade. So, it is good to have plenty of shady perching areas for them. Some of their favorite trees are oak, eucalyptus, birch and mimosa.
